Dave Asprey Glasses: TrueDark Glasses Review (& How They’re Different)

Have you seen Dave Asprey’s glasses?

He wears many different kinds. But the one that caught your eye doesn’t look like normal ones. The lenses are probably a red/orange/yellow color.

What in the world is it?

There are 3 possibilities. One might be for Irlen Syndrome (we won’t be talking about these), the other might be the popular Swannies Blue Light Blocker Glasses (full review here), or lastly, Dave Asprey’s own special pair of blue light blockers…

The TrueDark Twilight Glasses and TrueDark Daywalker Glasses.

Now you might be thinking, why would he come out with his own glasses? Aren’t there already enough out there?

You’re right, there are.

But Dave’s TrueDark glasses solve a problem you’ll run into with most (if not all) blue light blocking glasses. And before I show you how his glasses work, let me quickly explain this problem…

Blue Light Blocking Problems

For a second, forget everything you heard about blue light. And everything about how terrible it is. Why?

Because it’s NOT 100% bad.

This is where most people go wrong. They think blue light is ALWAYS causing damage. That’s simply not the case. In fact, you need blue light during the day and into the afternoon. It’s what makes your body stay awake and alert.

What the problem is then, is too much/too little blue light, at the wrong time of day. That’s where you can start feeling tired in the daytime, and awake during the nighttime.

You need to have a healthy balance. And guess what?

Most blue light blocking glasses can’t do that for you, giving you at best, an average experience.

How? The answer is simple…

Blue light blockers have only one-colored lens. This makes them too strong to wear during the day (remember, you need some blue light), and not strong enough before bed (you need to block as much as possible).

This is why Dave Asprey’s glasses come in two versions (which I’ll get to in a second).

There’s still one more problem you might not be aware of…

Greens And Yellows

Other than blue light, there’s a whole spectrum of different colors that disrupt sleep. Two being greens and yellows which might be just as bad as blues.

And your typical blue blockers obviously don’t block these colors.

Now this doesn’t mean they don’t work at all. They do. Clearly, some light blocking is better than none. But wearing them doesn’t protect you from green and yellow spectrums. They still pass through the lens, flow into your brain, and signal your body that it’s daytime.

This might be why some people haven’t found great success with blue light blocking glasses…

But what if you can block those greens and yellows?

Can you imagine how much better sleep will be when you can stop all sleep-disrupting lights?

As you can probably see where I’m going with this, that’s exactly what Dave Asprey’s glasses do.

Dave Asprey’s Glasses

Dave Asprey has two glasses — one for day time (TrueDark Daywalker), one for nighttime (TrueDark Twilight).

Both are similar in design, but serve their own purpose.

Here’s how it works…

Let’s first start with the TrueDark Daywalkers.

truedark daywalker glassesTrueDark Daywalkers block SOME blue light

These are like your typical blue light blocking glasses with its yellowish lenses. And like the name says, are designed to block harmful, artificial blue light during the day.

Here’s the catch though. It does NOT block all blue light — only some. Remember, some blue light is beneficial to staying awake and keeping your circadian rhythm in check. So what the TrueDark Daywalkers are for is to prevent an overload of blue light.

Wear these in the daytime when you’re around an excessive amount of artificial light. Whether it be in your office, around computers, phones, TVs, or when you’re on a plane. Not only will this block blue light, but it’ll also help with eye strain.

Now what about TrueDark Twilights?

TrueDark Twilights are for the most crucial time of blocking blue light — right before bed. But unlike normal blue blockers, these take it up a notch and cloud your field of view in a rosy red. What for? To block all lights harmful to your sleep including blue, green, and yellow.

Now the lenses on these can be quite intense. By that, I mean very dark. But that’s what makes these super effective. And besides, they’re only to be worn 2-4 hours before sleep. Although, some say just 30 minutes with these on will make you knock out.

TrueDark Twilights are the big player in Dave Asprey’s glasses. There’s nothing else like it, especially since they’re patented.

Prescription Inserts

Along with TrueDark’s incredible light blocking ability, they’re perfect for people who wear glasses too.

Each pair of glasses comes with a clip-in prescription insert for both the Daywalkers and Twilights.

Just have your optometrist fill the insert with your prescription lenses. Then, clip them onto your TrueDarks for crystal-clear vision.

If you don’t wear glasses, you can just toss these aside.

But if you do, these are almost mandatory as you can’t wear your regular glasses under them.

The only way you can wear your glasses under your TrueDarks, is if you get their Twilight Fitovers and Daywalker Fitovers. These models contain the same blue-blocking lenses. The only difference is these are designed to be a bit larger to comfortably fit over your prescription glasses.
